Partnerships Between JEA and Kidney Dialysis Centers
Many of us take Jacksonville’s abundant supply of clean water for granted. Not kidney dialysis patients. For them, JEA water can mean the difference between life and death. Why? Because successful kidney dialysis treatment always starts with a clean, abundant and reliable supply of drinking water.
Patients whose kidneys no longer function properly must use a flushing process called kidney dialysis to filter toxins from their blood. Kidney dialysis centers nationwide are required by law to further treat the public drinking water used in dialysis in order to meet medical requirements.
This entire process is a lot more successful when utilities communicate with dialysis centers early on about any potential problems – bacterial, chemical or even an interruption in water or electric service, say, from a nearby construction project.
